Job Description:
As the Lead VFX Artist, you will report to the Production Art Director and work directly with the VFX team, technical artists, and graphical engineers to produce real time visual effects that set a new bar for the gaming industry. You must be able to manage and lead a team of VFX artists to produce award winning next generation content, enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment, and value well thought out processes and schedules. The Lead VFX Artist is responsible for leading the VFX team in the design and creation of all visual effects, from concept to completion, and all associated VFX pipelines. You must possess excellent organizational skills, strong managerial and leadership skills, and have demonstrated exceptional technical skills while in a similar role on at least one AAA Next Gen console game.
Responsibilities:
- will lead a VFX team through the various stages of development and ensure the quality of the content produced in each functional area will define new standards in the industry
- will oversee the production and implementation of all VFX for the game
- will demonstrate, communicate and exemplify clear expectations for quality of work, productivity, communication and professionalism to the team
- will collaborate with the other leads to find production solutions that uphold the vision of the game and adhere to established technical requirements
- will work with the producers to develop solid schedules and production plans
- will contribute innovative and original ideas towards all aspects of game production and development
- will work with the leads to define and implement solid production pipelines
- will document & communicate clear technical guidelines for VFX creation and real-time implementation to the VFX team
- will manage and mentor the VFX team
- will report to Production Art Director
Qualifications:
- must have at least 5 years industry experience with at least one title shipped as a Lead on a next gen platform
- must have excellent understanding of real-time VFX and their application in games
- must have an expert-level understanding of particle systems and post processing effects
- must have experience in 3D modeling and 2D particle texture creation skills
- must have understanding of game engines, tools, pipelines and development processes
- must have proven ability to produce and direct the production of award winning next generation content
- must have demonstrated ability to be proactive and self motivated, work without direct supervision, and present the work of the team and the project in a professional manner
- must be capable of balancing a project’s creative and technical VFX requirements within schedule and staff limitations
- must have demonstrated ability to integrate the creative and technical VFX processes while ensuring that high production values are never compromised
- must have outstanding coaching and motivational skills having demonstrated the ability to mentor less experienced artists
- must be able to collaborate with the other leads to achieve solutions that work for all disciplines
- must have passion for making the highest quality games
- should have experience using UE3

Football season is only 2 weeks away and in BINC tradition, Grant Neckermann, Eli Arzhevskiy and I will be traveling up to Seattle and hosting a Happy Hour to watch the opening game (Giants vs. Redskins) with all of our friends and colleagues at the Pyramid Alehouse just south of Pioneer Square. Our last event earlier this year was a blast and we expect the same this time around. We will be reserving a nice sized room with 2 plasma’s, some great appetizers and of course plenty of beer/drinks to go around. The game starts at 4pm, so we’ll be there at 3:30 and plan to stay til at least 9. I hope you’ll be able to stop by and say hello. Please let us know if you will be able to make it.
