Candidates Offering to Pay Fees
I just received an email from a candidate offering to pay any recruiter who finds him a job a 3k bonus. Is this desperation or just a good business decision. My initial thought was that this guy is for sure not good enough to land a job on his own. After giving it some thought, I’m going to have to go with a good business decision. I have had the opportunity to work with many contractors throughout my career and what only the good ones realize is that being a contractor is like running your own mini business. You can’t just have a good product/service. You need to be equally skilled at marketing that service. I think that this guy has figured out that making whatever amount of money he makes on a contract is obviously worth a 3k referral. So why not blast out his skillset and offer some commissions in exchange for a great new opportunity. I don’t place this kind of person, so I am not inclined to go out of my way for the 3k. But if I did have relevant clients and this guy’s skillset was a marketable one, why not help him out and make a little extra while at it. I have included part of his email below:
I will pay $3,000 to the first recruiter who finds me a good .net contract or permanent opportunity. For most recruiters, this means you can double your commission on this placement. If you’re an independent recruiter, $3,000 might not motivate you. However, if you’re like most technical recruiters, you can more than double your commission by placing me in a good .net contract or permanent opportunity.
