Barack Obama to Choose America’s First CTO on Wednesday January 7, 2009
By Tawny on January 6, 2009
On January 20th 2009 President Elect Barack Obama will be officially inaugurated into office. Rumor has it, he will be officially announcing the countries first Chief Technology Officer as soon as tomorrow January 7, 2008.
There has been a lot of buzz and speculation going around in the tech world on who would make a good Chief Technology Officer. Some of the names that have been thrown around are Vint Cerf, Eric Schmidt, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos. Personally, I think any of these guys would do a great job. Each one has had a huge impact on the progress of our nation and the technological innovations coming out of it.
So who will President Obama choose and what tasks will the new CTO face once they are in office? I guess we will all have to wait until tomorrow to find out.
Obamacto.org is a website that gathers information through polls and boards put together by many technical savvy visitors. They are trying to get the word out to the new CTO of America on pressing issues the US faces technology wise and what should be done about it. Below is a poll from the site:
Barack Obama is going to appoint the nation’s first CTO. What are the top priorities?
12914 votes – Ensure the Internet is widely accessible & network neutral
10056 votes – ensure our privacy and repeal the patriot act.
8408 votes – Repeal the Digital Milennium Copyright Act (DMCA)
If you are at all interested in the movements our nation will be making in technical progression, I suggest you go to this site and see what it is about. Who knows the new CTO of America might use this site as a reference.
