How is her background gonna help fix Yahoo!? Is she gonna sell them a copy of AutoCAD 2009 and expect it to make things better? I personally try and get somebody who is more familiar with the Company’s platform.

Doesn’t seem like Wall Street likes the pick. Stock jumped for a brief moment and is heading down quickly. - Posted by Mark Sigal at January 13th, 2009 at 10:57 am
Maybe it can be akin to Gerstner joining IBM (what he lacked in vision, he more than made up in relentless focus on tactical execution).
Along those lines, the one bright spot for Bartz is product discipline/sensibility, which is key for a company that has planted a ton of seedlings but failed to faithfully tend the crops, and pull out the weeds in the process. - Posted by Kara Swisher at January 13th, 2009 at 11:38 am
Well, not a bold move, though a solid one. - Posted by Mark Light at January 13th, 2009 at 12:24 pm
I don’t she has what it takes to last, and to drive Yahoo! forward, personally. Yahoo doesn’t need a turnaround, so much as someone to drive them forward, to progress their souls, so to speak. One name that wasn’t brought up was Andrew Edmond, who actually was one of the biggest users of the network, in the early days of the Web. He has a proven track record. The question is does he still define cool? He used to be a natural a Yahoo! The new Yahoo!Mail, that character? That’s him.

Eh, that’s a pretty weak pick for a CEO. Definitely don’t think that she will be able to rally the troops over at Yahoo and turn that company around. - CalJobSource.com -- January 13th, 2009 at 10:31 am PST
Give the lady a chance. She has CEO experience so maybe she can turn Yahoo around! - Skaggs -- January 13th, 2009 at 10:33 am PST
Well the “experienced CEO’s” could never get it done, so why not bring in an “outsider” with a new perspective? - scarabic -- January 13th, 2009 at 12:33 pm PST
I don’t think CEOs of companies this big need to be web developers, for god’s sake. She’s running a corporation, not a website. And while we like to pretend that web companies are utterly different than all other kinds of corporations, that’s untrue, especially at a large size. Yahoo! needs tons of web-savvy, technically brilliant, innovative people in their development groups. At the helm they need good managers. - Sean -- January 13th, 2009 at 11:04 am PST
Surprised to see the dogs on the attack with comments such as, “She’s old!” and “SHE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE WEB.”
Jerry knows all sorts of things about the web. That worked out great.
And what about Eric Schmidt? Up until Google his major experience was with Sun and Novell? I guess at the time one could say he “KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE WEB!!!
